Investigations of pig herds by the staff of the Swine Clinic in Bern serve, on the one hand, to clarify herd-related problems and, on the other hand, to train students and provide continuing education for staff members. In every case, a structured herd examination is carried out and—when indicated—targeted follow-up investigations.
A small selection from the range of on-farm examinations:
- Targeted selection of pigs or pig samples for further diagnostics
- Targeted selection of samples from the animal environment for further diagnostics
- Spot measurements of barn climate
- Long-term barn climate measurements
- Evaluation of sow-management data
- Gynecological examination including ultrasound
- Andrological examination
The examinations are often carried out in collaboration with the herd veterinarians or the staff of the health services.
