Center of Competence for Farm Animal Health

At the Swine Clinic Bern, we combine clinical work, research, and teaching with the goal of improving the health and well-being of pigs — from the individual animal to the herd. Our projects range from practice-oriented clinical research to fundamental studies conducted in collaboration with national and international partners. The contact person is Prof. Dr. H. Nathues.

The Swine Clinic focuses on the following research areas:

  • Recording, evaluating, and improving animal health in pig herds
  • Monitoring, control, and, where appropriate, eradication of selected infectious diseases, as well as
  • Monitoring, control, and, where appropriate, eradication of selected infectious diseases, as well as strategies to reduce the use of antibiotics and improve consumer protection
